Support for Black entrepreneurs

As a part of the recent federal government throne speech, nearly $221M of new investment will be made available for Black business owners and entrepreneurs. Business Credit
Availability Program

Through Export Development Canada (EDC) and the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) direct lending and other financial support will be provided at market rates to businesses with viable business models whose access to financing would otherwise be restricted.

75% wage subsidy program

Businesses, not for profits and charities that have been impacted may qualify for a 75% wage subsidy. The criteria for reduced revenue, and qualifying payroll figures have recently been loosened.

Tax payment deferral

The Canada Revenue Agency will allow all businesses to defer, until after August 31, 2020, the payment of any income tax amounts that become owing on or after today and before September 2020.

Work-Sharing program

An adjustment program designed to help employers and employees avoid layoffs when there is a temporary reduction in the normal level of business activity that is beyond the control of the employer. The measure provides income support to employees eligible for Employment Insurance benefits who work a temporarily reduced work week while their employer recovers.

Canada Emergency Business Account

Implemented with eligible financial institutions and EDC. Interest-free loans up to $40,000 to small businesses and not-for-profits. Contact your financial institution to apply for these loans
