The51, Movement51 and KPMG in Canada collaborate to advance the Financial FeministTM Economy

CALGARY, June 29, 2022 — The51, Movement51 and KPMG in Canada are excited to announce a new collaboration that provides financial services, products and programming to benefit their respective organizations and the markets they serve.

KPMG and The51 began working together earlier this year, including joining efforts to bring to life events for shared audiences like The51’s HerStory 2022 Story-Pitch Competition and KPMG’s Women’s Interchange Network Reception. While the relationship between both organizations will focus on utilizing and leveraging formalized services, such as KPMG’s tax, advisory and accounting services, it will also activate a whole new community of Financial FeministsTM and enable participation in Movement51’s financial acumen programming. All three companies are excited about the many potential opportunities to champion women and gender-diverse ventures and investors that this new collaboration presents.

“We are delighted to share the news of KPMG and The51/Movement51,” says The51 Co-founders and Co-CEOs, Shelley Kuipers and Judy Fairburn. “KPMG’s organizational values align closely with ours and we are thrilled to be working together on initiatives that will contribute to driving impact for women and gender-diverse individuals across the venture capital, financial and entrepreneurial sectors. We are looking forward to exploring our collaboration further and seeing what we can do to create real change for underrepresented groups.”

“We are proud to join forces with The51/Movement51 and support female- and gender-diverse entrepreneurs to innovate, disrupt, and grow,” says Murray Suey, Regional Managing Partner of KPMG’s Calgary office. “As a firm, we realize how important gender inclusion and diversity is in making organizations better and the overall economy stronger. It’s an issue that I’ve long espoused at KPMG and which now affects me personally as my daughter embarks upon her own business career. While women entrepreneurship has been growing in Canada, we need to do more to champion the growth of women-owned businesses."

KPMG, which has provided accounting, auditing, tax and advisory services to Canadians for over 150 years, is an independent member firm of an international organization spanning 145 countries and employing more than 236,000 people. With a passion for client success, KPMG drives purpose in serving the communities where they operate, helping their clients, including women and gender-diverse founders, succeed in business.
