Founder Friday with Taran Ghatrora of Blume
Blume is a clean and effective skincare brand that prevents, treats and fades acne with natural ingredients. Blume offers education, safer personal care products, and at its core—community. Founded by sisters Taran and Bunny Ghatrora, Blume’s product offerings include natural deodorant, acne treatment, best selling acne patches called Blume Buds, a ceramide-packed blue gel moisturizer, and even an essential oil roller for period cramps!
We caught up with Taran to hear what’s new for Blume, what’s coming up next, insights into what’s happening in the industry, and advice she would give to her past self and up-and-coming women founders.
What’s New
Talk about major milestones: Taran, Bunny, and the team are thrilled to announce that Blume is now available nation-wide in Ulta Beauty and Sephora—both of which have been incredibly successful.
With Ulta Beauty, they’ve expanded to an incredible 1,400 locations, making their products even more accessible to customers across the United States. With Sephora, they’ve experienced national expansion in Canada, marking a significant step in their global presence and showcasing the growing demand for Blume. Stay tuned for a very exciting retail announcement from Blume in February!
In collaboration with Sephora and ULTA, Taran and Bunny were proud to host their first-ever Blume × Diwali celebrations throughout the US and Canada, including the flagship ULTA location at Herald Square. These events were a beautiful celebration of the festival of lights and offered exclusive products and experiences that honor this cultural celebration.
When it comes to the products, they’ve gotten a steady stream of glowing words, with over 10,000 positive reviews and several awards for their products. Taran, Bunny, and the team have grown quite the community, and customer feedback has always been invaluable to them. These reviews reflect the satisfaction and trust their customers have in their brand lineup. Blume also co-creates their product line with their community through surveys and community feedback, like for their upcoming SPF here.
On that front, the Blume team is constantly innovating, and in 2023, they introduced five amazing new products to the roster. These products have received fantastic responses from their customers and the beauty community.
Blume has received well-deserved attention along the way, such as being featured on the prestigious Today Show, which has helped them reach a broader audience and gain recognition for their products. The team has also received numerous business and product awards, including recognition from EY and their Entrepreneurial Winning Women™ North America Class of 2023.
And the cherry on top—Blume has raised over $3 million in venture capital funding, helping them further elevate and take the brand to the next level.
What’s Next
Blume is committed to strengthening their presence in Sephora Canada with further expansion, as well as having exciting plans for even more retail expansions that will bring their products to new locations and markets. Keep an eye out on Blume’s Instagram for announcements about these developments that will enhance accessibility for our customers.
Along with that will come the launch of new hero products in 2024. Taran, Bunny, and the team are gearing up to introduce three standout products that they believe will revolutionize the beauty industry. These hero products will offer innovative solutions and exceptional quality—we can’t wait for the reveal!
Their commitment to community engagement will continue as they relaunch their Community Champion Program, empowering individuals who champion Blume’s brand's values and mission within their communities.
… And Taran, Bunny, and the team have so much more in store for their customers and supporters planned for the new year. Again, stay tuned for announcements on their social media and website!
What’s Going On in the Industry
Three shifts Taran is really hopeful of in the beauty industry are around representation, sustainability, and clean ingredients. It's incredibly important to the team at Blume that their community feels seen and heard.
To Taran and Bunny, it’s heartening to see that more and more beauty brands recognize the importance of representing and catering to a wide range of skin tones, ethnicities, and backgrounds. This inclusivity is essential. Beauty is diverse and unique, and that should be universal—not a trend.
Sustainability is also paramount to Blume, and overall, positive strides are happening in the beauty industry moving towards less packaging, refillables, and more eco-friendly practices. At Blume, they use post-consumer recycled materials wherever possible, tree-free paper, and they are plastic and carbon neutral.
Lastly, clean ingredients are becoming table stakes more and more. As a result, brands that prioritize clean and sustainable formulations are gaining traction and reshaping industry standards. Here’s to increased ingredient education and focus on clean ingredients!
Advice to Your Past Self & Other Women Founders
“As a founder, one of the most important things you are responsible for is the energy you bring into a space,” Taran says. “Create white space for rest and recharging so you can show up as the best version of yourself and truly enjoy the journey.”
This is so important, not so you can produce more work and achieve more, but so you can have an incredible experience and show up in the most positive way for friends, for family, and for your team.
